Howdy, Pals. Here's a late addition to the
skedge. Apologies for the short notice, and all. But I tell you, right now I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.
This Sunday night, June 26 at 8:00pm I'll be opening for one of my all-time guitar heroes, David Lindley. Coincidenatlly enough, he was also my first guitar teacher, back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth in Southern California.
See, my brother and I had gotten a pair of pretty wretched Stella guitars for St. Patrick's Day in 1966. They were made of the finest Masonite - you culd reach into the soundhole and feel the fuzzy side - and after we taught ourselves a C chord and a G7, we trotted next door to where a red-hot young bluegrass band rehearsed for their gigs at Disneyland and asked Davey - who could play anything with strings - how to finger The Evil F Chord. He graciously obliged, showing us the thumbover version, since the action on those guitars was so high that we could fit a whole hand between the strings and the fretboard. And yup, ol' "Davey" somehow turned into David Lindley.
Come on out, Californios.
