Stevie Coyle Newsletter: Dec 12, 2007
NB: This is the first area-specific email from the brainiacs at Stevie Coyle Dot Com. If you'd rather be apprised only of gigs happening in your neighborhood, click that "Update Contact Info" link at the bottom and slide our resident geniuses some City and State info. Hey, Bay Areans - A quick note (no, really!) to hip you local folks to a couple of local gigs. Friday, Dec 14 at 8:00pm ERIC SCHOENBERG GUITARS in Tiburon, CA 106 Main Street 415.789.0846 (We've gone modern here at HQ, and are using periods instead of parentheses and hyphens in phone numbers now. But don't try dialing the periods in that number. It doesn't work, believe me.) Eric's shop is a wonder. The walls are positively papered with moderately-to-truly fabulous acoustic guitars. Music played here sounds like nowhere else, what with all that extra resonance shimmering in the air. Eric is the feller that nearly 30 years ago pretty much single-handedly got the Martin guitar company to once again start making guitars smaller than the then-ubiquitous dreadnought model. Other builders, both big and small, followed suit swiftly, once the golden-mean proportions and sweet sonic balance of the OM guitars were resurrected. If you're playing anything but a dread these days, your guitar probably owes its existence to Mr. S. So there. Those guitars are all for sale, too. Be aware, though, that the price tags on the ones over the counter at the very back of the shop don't really mean it when they say "Inquire." Buddy, if you have to inquire, well ... I'm thrilled to be sharing the stage here with fingerstyle guitar guru Walter Strauss. Walter is a recent transplant to the Bay Area and is swiftly establishing himself as a Major Dude hereabouts. Come see him in this most intimate venue before that possibility utterly evaporates. Yes, Virginia, he's that good. Saturday, Dec 15 at 7:00pm PAST THE BUCK HOUSE CONCERTS in Half Moon Bay, CA The Bills loved this venue, The Lovell Sisters had a hugely memorable last-minute gig here, Corinne West and The Posse rocked the joint. It's swiftly becoming a destination for national as well as local acts. And all the cool kids will be there. Email Erin <beachmeeting@earthlink.net> for info and directions. I'll be sharing the night with good buddy and former co-conspirator from Frontmen days Doug Adamz. Doug is a tremendous singer, songwriter, guitarist, fiddler and harmonicist. And he's arguably the best-known composer of modern belly-dance music around. His works have been recorded by The Kronos String Quartet and danced to by The Joffrey Ballet. All that under one hat. (Belly-dance and ballet attire encouraged, with extreme gender prejudice.) That's What It Is for December. Thanks for the use of the pixels, and Merry Christmas. -Stevie Coyle http://www.reverbnation.com/steviecoyle Click here to put our songs on your Facebook profile.
