(NB: The Writer's Guild strike is still on. As you read this email that will become ever more painfully apparent. Any inconsistency or  outright incoherence, not to mention grammatical lapses, misapplied regionalisms and overuse of the ellipsis, as well as any implication that 'proactive' is an actual word in the English language or that 'impact' can rightly be used as a verb are to be blamed solely on the Jesuit-educated scab labor we've had to resort to here at Stevie Coyle Dot Com.)

I suppose you're all wondering why I have gathered you here today ....

Well, now that we are all assembled, first and foremost I'd like to welcome you to the shakedown cruise of the new newsletter and to thank each and every one of you for bring here. So AAA Automotive, thank you ...  Aaron Aaronson, thank you ...  Aberfeldy's Aardvark Abatement, thank you ... and, well ... you get the picture. From A to Z - and as we say here in California -  mucho appreciado. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to stay in touch with you.

This mailer will be a bit different from The Waybacks'. Aside from offering you a snappy autumnal color scheme, the new system here at HQ will be able to parse the master list and send out gig mentions, impassioned exhortations and desperate pleas region by region. Now, I'm certain I won't be able to resist sending out the occasional java-celerated rant to the whole list, but nickels to dimes most longtime Backaroos will agree that in that case less, as they say, is most certainly more.

The upshot is that unless you want to hear about every gig everywhere, it might be well to click that "Update My Profile" link at the very bottom of this page and let the database know where you live. This missive, for example, is for the particular benefit (and the term is used advisedly) of friends who live within striking distance of the San Francisco Bay Area. So if you're in Atlanta or Bangor or the far-flung Isles of Langerhan these gigs may not be of particular interest to you. I will not be crushed not to see you at one of these shows, I promise. So once again, that "Update My Profile" link may well be your next stop. The Internet really is more than talented dogs and cute kids and painful bicycle mishaps on YouTube, you know, so take a chance and click on over.

The new solo album is well under way. Guitar hero and producer Walter Strauss is at the helm and is getting great sounds. Some very cool guests will be sitting in on the sessions, and I'll hip you to that scene once all the arrangements are in place. (BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!)

Speaking of Walter - and since The Season Which Must Not Be Named is almost here - and since he already has a CD for sale - let me offer one man's vibe: his Pulling Shadows album becomes a swift favorite of nearly all who hear it, so you could do a lot worse than to purchase several copies for stocking-stuffers this year. And it's not too late. CD Baby can send you a copy pronto, and it's available for download from iTunes as well. Beats the hell out of a Whitman Sampler, I'm telling you. But don't take my word for it; read what smart people say. Surf on over to the site, and to the Music link in particular. Now there's a sampler, baby! Poke your thumb into the bottom of some of them MP3s. See? Not a yucky cherry cordial in the bunch.

Lastly: touring. Just wanted to let you know that a 3-week tour is taking shape from Florida up through Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas from the middle of February through the beginning of the middle of March. I'll be be back in all those neighborhoods early in May to play all the places I didn't get to the first time and will be stretching up into Virginia and probably up out of South America altogether into the upper mid-Atlantic. Late July and early August I'll be in New England. And on and on. I'm doing lots of house concerts and I'm absolutely loving them. And after all, a house concert is just a party with a concert in the middle, so if you think you'd like to assemble upwards of 30 or 40-odd folks at your house, let's talk. Even folks that aren't odd are OK. I'll just talk slower.

Lastly, again, and for us guitar nerds only: tablature for my easy - to - crazyhard fingerstyle arrangement of Angels We Have Heard On High is for sale offa my homepage.

That is all.

All the best, all y'all. Merry Whatever and Happy New Year.
